Dog parks and pet-friendly places in Abu Dhabi: rules, hours and what to check first

Where to take your dog in Abu Dhabi: Al Khubeirah dog park, Sheikha Fatima Park’s Bark Park, Al Masar Park, the Falcon Hospital agility park, plus pet-friendly stays and the rules to know.

By Mori editorial team7 min readFacts checked 22 October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Abu Dhabi’s government living guide names Al Khubeirah dog park, a dog area in Sheikha Fatima Park, the Falcon Hospital’s dog agility park and the Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter.
  • Al Khubeirah dog park is gated, lets dogs run off-leash inside, and admits only vaccinated dogs older than six months.
  • Hours come from a 2024 press guide rather than the government page, and the agility park’s hours conflict between sources. Phone before you go.
  • Hotels that welcome dogs set their own limits. Two reported examples: dogs up to 18 kg at one Yas Island hotel, and a daily fee at a Dhafra resort.
  • Outside designated areas, keep your dog on a leash and follow posted signs, because many public spaces do not admit dogs.

Abu Dhabi is greener and calmer than many visitors expect, and for dog owners the capital has a handful of places built with dogs in mind. They are not many, and the rules vary from place to place, so a little preparation makes the difference between a joyful outing and a wasted drive.

This guide brings together what the Abu Dhabi government’s “Living with pets” guide says, what recent press guides report, and where sources disagree. Where we are not sure of something, we say so. Please check signage and the venue’s own channels before you go, because hours and rules change.

What are the main dog parks in Abu Dhabi?

The government guide names three dog-focused places, and a press guide adds a fourth. The table summarises what each source says, with the confidence level.

PlaceAreaWhat sources say
Al Khubeirah dog parkAl KhubeirahOpened in 2022. Gated, with dogs allowed off-leash inside. Only vaccinated dogs older than six months may enter. Separate areas for small and large dogs, drinking stations and play equipment (government guide).
Sheikha Fatima Park, Bark ParkAl BateenA fenced pet area for dogs inside a family park (government guide). Press guides also mention a splash area, skate park and play area in the wider park.
Al Masar Park, dog sectionKhalifa CityA dedicated dog section with a playground for small and large dogs (press guide, 2024).
Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital dog agility parkAl ShamkhahAgility training from basic to advanced for dogs of all sizes (government guide). Hours conflict between sources, so call first.

You will find all four, with their sources and the date we checked them, in the Abu Dhabi section of Mori’s local guide.

What are the rules at Al Khubeirah dog park?

Al Khubeirah is the best known. It is gated, which is what makes the off-leash area possible, and the government guide says only vaccinated dogs over six months old may enter. The park has separate areas for small and large dogs, which is a kindness to nervous small dogs, and it has drinking stations and play equipment.

  • Bring proof of vaccination. The park admits only vaccinated dogs, so keep the record with you. Our guide to rabies and core vaccinations explains what to carry.
  • Check your dog’s age. Puppies under six months are not admitted.
  • Leash up outside. Being off-leash is a feature of the fenced area only, and public-space rules apply outside it.
  • Pick up after your dog, as everywhere in the UAE.

A 2024 press guide lists daily opening hours, but the government page does not state hours, so treat them as a guide and check before a long drive.

Timing mattersGo early in summer. A shaded, fenced park is lovely in October, but in the hot months the middle of the day is risky even for dogs that love to run. See our guide to walking your dog in the UAE heat.

What about the Falcon Hospital agility park and the animal shelter?

Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital runs a dog agility park with training from basic to advanced, and the government guide says it welcomes dogs of all sizes. This is a place for training sessions rather than a casual drop-in park, so expect to book and to pay. Its hours are a good example of why we ask you to phone ahead: one press guide gives a daytime window, an older volunteer list gives different hours and a fee, and a ticketing listing reports it as temporarily closed. We cannot tell you which is current.

The Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter is managed by Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital and sits on its site between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Shamkha. If you are thinking of adopting or volunteering, contact the shelter through its own channels for visiting and adoption rules rather than turning up.

Can I stay in a hotel with my dog in Abu Dhabi?

Some hotels welcome dogs, and each sets its own rules. An August 2026 guide from The National to dog-friendly hotels in the UAE reports two examples. At W Abu Dhabi on Yas Island, dogs up to 18 kg are welcome for a non-refundable Dh350, with a microchip and an up-to-date vaccination card required at check-in, and the hotel has pet-friendly green spaces. At Aldhafra Resort in the Al Dhafra region, dogs and cats are welcome for Dh70 a day plus a Dh350 deep-cleaning fee. The guide does not state weight limits, pet numbers or vaccination rules for the second.

These details come from one press guide and can change, so confirm everything with the hotel when you book. Ask about size limits, the number of pets, fees, which rooms and areas are allowed, and whether the dog can be left alone in the room. We have put together a checklist in our guide to checking a venue’s pet policy.

Are cafes and beaches dog-friendly in Abu Dhabi?

A few cafes are reported to welcome dogs, usually outdoors, but that information mostly comes from older press and volunteer lists, so treat it as a lead rather than a promise. Beaches are the area to be most careful. Abu Dhabi has restricted dogs from many beaches, parks and malls in the past, and one old list names a Yas Island beach as dog-friendly while stressing that official signs must be respected. Rules have changed over the years, and we could not find a current official statement to settle it.

When in doubtDo not assume a public beach, park or mall allows dogs. If there is no sign and no official source, ask the operator or choose a designated dog area instead.

What are the general rules for dogs in Abu Dhabi?

Federal rules apply across the UAE: dogs should be licensed and on a leash in public places, and owners must clean up after them. Some dog breeds are banned, as we explain in our guide to banned and restricted dog breeds. If you are bringing a dog into Abu Dhabi, you need an import permit first: AED 200 for dogs and cats, with a microchip and a full vaccination record, and at most two pets per owner. Sources disagree on how long a permit stays valid, as we explain in our import guide.

A quick checklist for your first visit

  • Phone or check the venue’s page for today’s hours and rules.
  • Bring your dog’s vaccination record and microchip details.
  • Carry water, a bowl and waste bags.
  • Keep a leash on until you are inside a designated off-leash area.
  • Learn the signs of overheating, and know where the nearest 24-hour vet is.

Abu Dhabi’s dog places are few, but they are well worth knowing. And if you find a place that has changed its rules, or one that we are missing, tell us and we will check it.
